Dr. Mark Stemen

Mark Stemen is a professor of Geography and Planning at CSU, Chico, where he teaches environmental courses in sustainability and civic engagement. Known to his students as ‘Dr. Mark,’ he is well recognized on the campus for his work with students and the community on sustainability issues. Under his direction, students completed a campus sustainability assessment, as well as greenhouse gas inventories for CSU, Chico, Butte Community College, and the City of Chico. He and his students recently established two community gardens. They also created a plan for an expanded Saturday Farmers Market.

GEOG 506S

Community Service Practice in Geography is designed to provide students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of geography and planning through an applied research project, as well as expose them to the everyday workings of a planning department in a medium-sized town.

Elizabeth Stemen

Elizabeth received her degree in Spanish and Latin American literature from UC Berkeley, where she served as managing editor and web and digital media manager for the UCB Comparative Literature Undergraduate Journal. Since graduating in 2015, Elizabeth has worked as an independent editor. She has been involved with several published projects, including From Liberation to Civilization: Seizing an Alternative Education (Process Century Press, 2016). She is excited to be working with Chico2030.

​Student by day and artist by night, Grace is an intuitive designer captivated by the balance of aesthetics and function. Between graphic and web design she satisfies both her passions and her practical career goals, and after completing her two Bachelors of Arts at California State University, Chico, she intends to head south in search of the job. Grace views accessible, enticing design to be a necessary component in the development and preservation of a community.

Bryce Goldstein

Bryce graduated from Humboldt State University in 2016 with a degree in Environmental Science: Energy and Climate. She currently works with the City of Chico through CivicSpark, an AmeriCorps program dedicated to working with local governments to help them address climate change. Bryce is helping the City of Chico engage the community in climate action, as well as participating in other local environmental efforts. She is excited to have the opportunity to contribute to Chico2030.
